Abergavenny Food Festival and new round & oval limited edition collection
We were at the Abergavenny Food Festival again this year with Made in Monmouthshire in the Art Village. It’s a wonderful festival and of course art goes hand in hand with food & wine 😉
Apart from some big originals, Sea Sprays and Arty Scarves, I was showing some of the new round & oval artworks, which I’ve recently been working on. They’re limited edition giclee prints that I glue with a soft gel binding medium to a custom made birchwood rounded panel. I then varnish several times and add a copper trim around the edge and can also silver leaf the edge. Basically, I can offer any of my prints on these panels now and they’re ready to hang, look lovely, original and just that little bit different.
Please get in touch directly me@sallymills.gallery or further contact details are on the contact page and we can discuss sizes and then I can give you a quote. All the best for now – Sally
Abergavenny Arts Festival
There’s heaps going on at The Abergavenny Arts Festival and I’ll be there with the Made in Monmouthshire members on the Sunday 1st July for the very big Arts Fest in the Market Hall. I have 1 very big original on canvas, smaller originals on canvas and also framed, Sea Sprays on small wooden panels, limited edition giclee prints and finally Arty Scarves printed from original paintings.
There will also be art demos during the day and I’ll be showing how I do Sea Sprays – hope to see you there
Where dreams come true and new art
A new painting which I’ve named Where dreams come true. Really enjoyed working on this which has been in the making for some months along with a number of other paintings all themed around water in one way or another. Now that I have a new art studio, thank you to Bob for building it, I’ve got the space to be messy and not put anything away 🙂
So this year I’m concentrating on painting in patterns and many translucent layers. I am a bit obsessed with water although not totally fixed on it as do enjoy trying to capture the tangle of wild flowers but I want to explore textures and abstract patterns that water and its many reflections create from the dapples above to the underwater world below.
Open Art Studios trail 2018
Well that was brilliant fun and thanks to CRiC Oriel Gallery for organising such an excellent Open Art Studio Trail. There were 28 studios to visit in and around Crickhowell and Abergavenny — and this year Gilwern was on the map. I've taken part in Open Art Trails but in Australia so this was the first time in the UK. Bob has built me a beautiful Art Stiwdio up in the hills of Gilwern, South Wales so it's a special event for us.
Lots of art to see from really big works on canvas of waterways and reflections in my impressionistic and abstract way to close ups of waves on watercolour paper to Sea Sprays and wild flowers. We also had Arty Scarves, Art Cushions & Tote Bags and a new collection of greeting cards – all taken from prints of original art work.
Many thanks to everyone that visited us up in the Hills of Gilwern – we had a ball particularly at the Arty Party on Sunday x

Epic
It’s my abstract take on the sea and named Epic as I had painted it as a beautiful powerful wave. You may also see it as an aerial shot of the ocean, waves and beach.
Epic is being offered as a limiited edition print of 75 and is currently at the Oriel CRiC Gallery, Crickhowell.
Chester Originals Art Show Friday 27th & Saturday 28th October
I’ve got an art stand at Originals@Chester Town Hall, a show put on by Artists who range from fine art to hand made jewellery and ceramics. This is one of the Sea Sprays that will be for sale and I’ll have a number of small original paintings as well as some limited edition prints and a new range from the black & white collection.
This is the first time for me so I’m excited. Bit of a journey from Gilwern, South Wales but hopefully will catch up with some old friends who live that way too and Chester is a beautiful City.
It’s a free event and looking at the other Artists works, it looks great. So come along to say Hi

The Deep Blue Ocean tryptic
The 3 Sea Sprays named the Deep Blue Ocean and my take on the beautiful powerful sea. Created by painting many layers of inks between layers of a non-toxic type resin on beechwood.
I’ve entered these into the Crickhowell Oriel Gallery Art Competition – not sure if they will be accepted yet but if they are they’ll be on view and for sale late May through to June in the Gallery.
Each Sea Spray is 25cm x 20cm – Hope you likex
Wild Irises – along the river bank
The three Irises are part of my new exploration of what lies and lives along the waterways. It’s my abstract take on the dark tangle of reeds and grasses and then the beautiful iris popping their heads up, having a look around whilst in the comfort of the bank – there’s a slight breeze and it’s a bit chilly but it’s a clear sky and there’s lots going on along the river bank and it’s a good day 😉
Here it Comes sold at auction in support of research to cure cancer
Very pleased that ‘Here it Comes’ a painting from ‘Amongst the Waves’ collection of art was sold at auction at a function on 8th April – part of the Cure de Tour that cycles and holds fundraising events to support research in helping to find a cure for cancer. Really chuffed that it sold for $2,000.
Here is Comes is painted with a range of inks on 640gsm watercolour paper and is my abstract take on the tip of a wave as it starts to gain strength on it’s journey to shore. It was framed in a floating white frame and looks very contemporary.
