Hills & Valleys and what I’ve been up to the last few years

Earlier in the year I started working on a new series; Hills & Valleys, inspired by the surrounding landscape of the Black Mountains & Brecon Beacons National Park. I’ve painted a number of artworks on wooden and aluminium substrates, some long landscape and some round all using numerous layes of pouring medium and inks where I use the inks in the pour and also paint between each layer. I then finish with a layer of art resin. Due to its many layers, it has a rich translucency and the resin adds to this but also makes the art more resiliant; water, heat and scratch resistant, introducing the idea that you can not only have your art hanging on the wall framed but use possibly as splashbacks in your kitchen, hang in the bathroom or use as an occasional table.

Abergavenny Food Festival and new round & oval limited edition collection

We were at the Abergavenny Food Festival again this year with Made in Monmouthshire in the Art Village. It’s a wonderful festival and of course art goes hand in hand with food & wine 😉

Apart from some big originals, Sea Sprays and Arty Scarves, I was showing some of the new round & oval artworks, which I’ve recently been working on. They’re limited edition giclee prints that I glue with a soft gel binding medium to a custom made birchwood rounded panel. I then varnish several times and add a copper trim around the edge and can also silver leaf the edge. Basically, I can offer any of my prints on these panels now and they’re ready to hang, look lovely, original and just that little bit different.

Come and check out the Made in Monmouthshire marquee in Babington Meadow over the 1st & 2nd September from 10am to 4pm. I have a stall there and will be showing some small original paintings, fine art giclee limited edition prints, arty scarves and a number of art cushions and bags printed from my original paintings. It’s a wonderful setting for all things art…

Thinking of Art and what I need to get ready for 😉
September 1st & 2nd I’ll be in the Made in Monmouthshire marquee at Art in Penallt
September 15th & 16th Abergavenny Food Festival in the Art Village
October 27th & 28th Chester Town Hall with Originals at Chester
… but I also have a spot at The Court Cupboard Art & Craft Gallery where I display a number of originals, fine art giclee prints and a range of arty scarves, tote bags and cushions printed from my original art.
Also have some work at the beautiful Oriel CRiC Gallery, Crickhowell and often at the Craft Fair in Abergavenny which happens 2nd Saturday of the month.

Abergavenny Arts Festival

There’s heaps going on at The Abergavenny Arts Festival and I’ll be there with the Made in Monmouthshire members on the Sunday 1st July for the very big Arts Fest in the Market Hall. I have 1 very big original on canvas, smaller originals on canvas and also framed, Sea Sprays on small wooden panels, limited edition giclee prints and finally Arty Scarves printed from original paintings.

There will also be art demos during the day and I’ll be showing how I do Sea Sprays – hope to see you there

Where dreams come true and new art

A new painting which I’ve named Where dreams come true. Really enjoyed working on this which has been in the making for some months along with a number of other paintings all themed around water in one way or another. Now that I have a new art studio, thank you to Bob for building it, I’ve got the space to be messy and not put anything away 🙂

So this year I’m concentrating on painting in patterns and many translucent layers. I am a bit obsessed with water although not totally fixed on it as do enjoy trying to capture the tangle of wild flowers but I want to explore textures and abstract patterns that water and its many reflections create from the dapples above to the underwater world below.

Chester Originals Art Show Friday 27th & Saturday 28th October

I’ve got an art stand at Originals@Chester Town Hall, a show put on by Artists who range from fine art to hand made jewellery and ceramics. This is one of the Sea Sprays that will be for sale and I’ll have a number of small original paintings as well as some limited edition prints and a new range from the black & white collection.

This is the first time for me so I’m excited. Bit of a journey from Gilwern, South Wales but hopefully will catch up with some old friends who live that way too and Chester is a beautiful City.

It’s a free event and looking at the other Artists works, it looks great. So come along to say Hi
